Its like an ashram here at Jeffery Hessings voluminous loft by the port today, with Jeff as the mumbling master – he mumbles most of the time except when hes talking on a track and then his voice springs to life – a whole crew of colorful characters descended on it here last night, one of whom, is a superhuman looking guy who runs up mountains and whod been thrown out of the French Foreign Legion for being too violent even for them, but youd never know it, so gentle and kind is his demeanor, which just shows to go you never to judge a book by its cover. Ive woken up with colorful characters strewn all about the place – sleeping, not wounded or dead by his hand. And Jeff is mumbling something which as I get closer and ask him to repeat it a couple of times turns out to be something about a cow. Ive no idea what he means and it doesnt matter – gurus are often unintelligible. I look over at the jumble of computers, hard drives, instruments, microphones, headphones, leads and assorted evidence of last nights me working on the two new tunes for the very long in completing (two years so far) Jeff n Stephs Electric Window project and have a good feeling about them. I have a good feeling about life altogether today. Not that things arent challenging for me, for all of us, particularly in the Philippines where the mess and devastation after the storm is imponderable. But the spirit of courage thats getting them through it there is inspiring and a sharp reminder not to lose the fighting spirit. So no matter the potential or actual mess, misfortune, muddle, madness or muck we may be faced with, the crucial thing is to cleave fast to that courage and fighting spirit, and to use it to support a clear vision of the outcome you wish for rather than the one you dont. You dont have to specify details (when you make the wish) and in many ways the magic seems to work even better when you dont. But if you can just see yourself having jumped over whatever hurdle lies before you, looking relieved, beautiful, healthy, strong, vibrant, confident, triumphant, and utterly delighted to be alive, implying all the requisite material conditions and resources have been mysteriously shunted into place to facilitate such a state, and if you can keep seeing yourself that way, perhaps only fleetingly as you work, rest and play today, but frequently, so that the image you have of yourself in relation to the world around you, and in relation to your prospects, is a positive one, itll provide a reliable lifeline to guide you home. Im doing it now. Do it now with me (if you like). See yourself on the other side of any present challenges looking supremely glorious as only one whos surmounted their problems can and let the sensation of that envisioned supreme glory be felt in every cell in your body. Then trust it, believe it, dont strive to achieve it, merely receive it, and if Im not mistaken well all soon be rolling in clover. The games not over till its over.
