Its mental health day here, mental health destroyed my family. It - TopicsExpress

Its mental health day here, mental health destroyed my family. It has been a journey, their are so many scales of mental health. I always thought depression just needed rest, time away, and would come good. If people arent treated rightly, their thinking becomes distorted, they become delusioned and often unable to face or accept there illness and get help. They create a new identity. One thing I have learnt is its not there fault, often they are in complete denial and actually are unaware they are ill. They think everyone else is the enemy, and because their thinking is negative, they hide from loved ones and the people that know them best because they dont want to admit their illness. There is no shame in any form of mental illness. You cant see it so often its hard for people to understand the tiredness, pain inside, thinking patterns. One of the hardest things as a spouse is watching someone you love change, and turn against you. No matter how hard you try to help them they push you away, they isolate from there friends, family and just cut themselves off. There is no control unless the person wants help, and its often a very selfish journey. Of course I am speaking not from dealing with depression myself but watching someone I loved let go of who they are. You cant just snap of it. You cant just deal with it, get over it. It takes time, acceptance and healing. In some cases its getting to the root of the problem, many lie within the persons childhood. Rick Joyner stated this week: Pain is good, it shows you where there is a problem. Do not try to reduce the pain until you reduce the problem. I love this, how many people turn to medication to take away the problem, they become numb, disconnected, and they feel NOTHING. I am not against medication, its very important, but getting the right balance that allow people to face their demons is equally important! I encourage you not to judge people with mental health issues, often they are very high functional people. Ludwig van Beethoven experienced bipolar disorder, as documented in the book “The Key to Genius: Manic Depression and the Creative Life.” Anthony Storr wrote about Winston Churchill’s bipolar disorder in “Churchills Black Dog, Kafkas Mice, and Other Phenomena of the Human Mind.” Love one another, encourage and accept, and educate yourself.
