Its not all about world records. Read this inspiring piece from Michael Burns from the Shetland Islands, the most northerly point in the British Isles: Earlier today, the Shetland Islands team completed the 26.2 miles at Clickimin, Lerwick, in 2 hours 22 minutes and 35 seconds. Given the conditions (cold, wet and windy) that was a great performance. With an age range of 10 to 63 it was a multi-generational event. It was also an event full of humour - have you ever seen someone in a sleeping-bag complete a 200m sprint? Congratulations to the runners, particularly the younger ones who showed great determination to complete the event. A special mention also needs to be made of those who stood around in the cold and damp, recording the times, making sure that runners were in the right place at the right time and keeping a tally of the laps completed. Perhaps next year we will be able to go for the world record - given better conditions.
