Its not all walking to heel you know :-) There is lots of free time on a packwalk, but the difference between this, and out-of-control anarchy, is that I choose where and when and how it happens, so that everyone stays safe. Im not saying anything to the dogs here in this clip because nothing needs correcting. Theyre doing just fine and Coco is teasing the other dogs with her effortless acceleration. Coco and Harry (my b&ts), have had some great structured socialisation today. 9 dogs in this environment is perfect. Socialisation is about building experience of quality interactions with balanced dogs, not meeting as many as poss. When you go to the supermarket, do you feel like you should introduce yourself to every stranger you see in it? Chances are youd come across some hostility sooner or later. Likewise your dog really does not need to meet every random dog it sees, and run a high risk of finding an aggressive dog amongst them. Its not about quantity. Its about quality. Coco and Harry have chalked up some great experiences today around experienced dogs who I know individually and can trust to be great teachers.
