Its not an illusion at all. One way to look at it is reductive (circular motion is just linear sinusoidal motion). Another way to look at it is complementary (circular motion and linear sinusoidal motion are equivalent). A third way to look at it is suspiciously (wondering whether circular motion and linear sinusoidal motion arent symmetrical parts of a much larger whole, as Fourier did, without whose mathematics the electronics to display this image would not be possible).
