Its not easy having a child that is born not according to factory - TopicsExpress

Its not easy having a child that is born not according to factory settings. Or in our case, two children. People stare. People judge. People question you (yes, out loud to your face) what you did to cause them to be different. It hurts. You cry a lot. Its confusing and you question things. Its hard to hold your newborn baby in your arms and know they will face challenges. To be laying on the operating table being sewn up while your 5 minute old baby cries and be told of the long road ahead and many surgeries they will need. To watch them struggle to eat. Struggle to breathe. Struggle to grow and thrive like everyone elses babies. It is hard to not compare your child to others. To watch everyone post pictures of their babies with the hashtag #perfect and to sit behind your computer and cry. Watching your children be taken away to the OR for surgery breaks your heart. Walking into the recovery room and seeing them after their surgeries destroyed me. Knowing Claire has multiple surgeries ahead of her and watching her struggle every day has broken me down. Knowing that the chances of having more children with clefts is a heavy burden to carry around. But its also a blessing. Our girls are beautiful, they are amazing, they are strong, and they are unique. They are happy, healthy, and filled with joy. They brighten our lives every day. And they have taught us so much. We have become so strong. We have learned to praise God through many storms. We have learned to take everything one day at a time. We are blessed. Clefts produce many obstacles, but they are also very much repairable and for the most part, children born with clefts live perfectly normal and happy lives. I thank God every day for our girls, and I wouldnt change a thing about them. I love their unique smiles. They are our greatest blessings. This is OUR month. This is our time to share our stories, to help others understand more about clefts. I cant wait to share with all of you our journey. Its been a wild one.. Hold on tight!
