Its not even24 hours since we lost 3 friends to tragic accidents during the Chimay Road Races. We have not even had the time to lay our friends to Rest. Yet the Jungle drums are beating to have the Road Races Stopped. All of us involved with road racing know the risks we take and accept them, we try to put a good show on most weekends. Then we have the clubs and their members working hard for many months preparing the tracks the best they can with limited budgets and or most of the time their time is free. As someone from the Isle of Man who has grown up with road racing since birth, I hear these Jungle Drums every time a rider is injured or worse still fatal. We have fought of all attempts by others to kill our sport and in fact Racing on the Island is getting stronger with all race grids, Hotels and travel full to bursting point. The majority of Pure Road Racers dont ride on public roads and why, because its just to dangerous to themselves and other road users. Instead they enjoy going to closed road tracks to try and do what the bikes are manufactured for and that is speed and ability to ride them. Its very rare that a member of the public is killed or even injured at our mostly free to watch shows. I would ask those that want our sport banned to take a look at the statistics of accidents involving Bikes and other road users on public roads, you will be shocked at the figures given on serious and fatal accidents. Do you want more bikes speeding through your little world putting you, your children and others at risk of meeting their maker. If thats want you want then go ahead get the races banned, but dont come back screaming and crying that someone you loved has passed away because some hairy assed biker was speeding through your country lanes. Finally Road Racing bikes and cars have saved more lives than it has taken as its reduced the risks. RIP 111-212-90
