Its not just Australia. Its the same if he was in the UK or any of the European countries. All those countries which place human rights above all. If he was sentenced to any other penalty other than the death penalty, I am sure Australia would be respectful of our laws and extradite that fellow. If Malaysia gives a solemn undertaking that he will not be hanged to death, I am sure we will see a different Australian response. I am against the death penalty for the simple reason that only God makes a life and only He can take away that life. No human can take away another humans life. Further, a human judge or a panel of human judges is liable to make human mistakes. There are records and proof of many death sentences which had been wrongly passed and executed especially in the USA. Hard cases make good laws. Even if we are sure of the guilt of Sirul, for the sake of good precedents, although he might have taken a human life, we must not pass the death sentence on him. Let him rot in jail for the rest of his life but, to me, a pro-life, a death sentence should not be passed by fellow humans on him. I am told those guys from Unit Tindakan Khas are like robots or automatons, and act on commands from a superior without question. We should be focussing on who commanded them to kill. In law, although acting on a higher command may not be a defence to the killing, the person who commanded the killing is as liable. Our prosecutorial and justice system should be interested in that and apprehend and charge the commander and trace the chain of commands to the very top. Unfortunately, our prosecutors and judges are not interested to uncover the truth although the truth could be easily or, more likely, is already ascertained. And the longer Sirul and the other fellow live, the better the chance that we may uncover who commanded the killing. Let him live a living hell. And hopefully that hell will squeeze the truth out of him.
