Its not too late to tell Finance Minister Mike de Jong where he - TopicsExpress

Its not too late to tell Finance Minister Mike de Jong where he can stick his proposed changes to the BC Societies Act. THIS IS URGENT!! Today, the Minister of the Environment, Mary Polak, and Minister of Energy and Mines, Bill Bennett, and probably several other Cabinet Ministers, have signed off on the Site C Dam project in the Peace River Region. This dam is going to cost us $8Billion (but we know how unlikely it is to stay on-budget), will flood a huge swath of agricultural land and displace wildlife, and will take at least 10 years to complete. Mary Polak said the dam is in the public interest and the potential benefits will outweigh the risks of significant adverse environmental, social, and heritage effects. globalnews.ca/news/1614255/massive-site-c-dam-gets-enviro-approval/ With the proposed changes to the Societies Act, it will be possible for anyone to petition the BC Supreme Court to dissolve any Non-Profit Society for doing anything that person - and a chosen Justice - deems not in the public interest. Quite simply, the Government is about to enact a legislation that will effectively make it ILLEGAL TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE SITE C DAM, LNG DEVELOPMENT, OR OIL PIPELINES. Do you want the Government to stifle debate? Do you think its fair for the Government to bankrupt the Sierra Club or Greenpeace or Rainforest Action Network? Because thats what Bill Bennett, Christy Clark, and all the Liberal Cabinet are conspiring to do. And they will accomplish it because PEOPLE IN BC ARE TOO APATHETIC TO REACT. We have until the END OF TODAY - WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 15TH - to send an email to Mike de Jong, and tell him we do NOT APPROVE of his proposed changes to the BC Societies Act. IT WILL TAKE YOU 5 MINUTES!! Honourable Minister Michael de Jong: I do not approve of your proposed changes to the BC Societies Act. I am strongly opposed to the Provision you want to make that will allow a Supreme Court Justice to approve an appropriate person to file a claim against a Society, when you have not listed Guidelines for what constitutes an appropriate person, nor defined the public interest. I believe we must protect Freedom of Speech and encourage public debate about proposed mega-projects like the Site C Dam. Your proposed changes will make it possible for Private Corporations to bankrupt non-profit Environmental groups, and I will not stand for that. (Or words to that effect) DO IT NOW! Yes - YOU! huffingtonpost.ca/sandy-garossino/bc-societies-act-christy-clark_b_5973568.html
