Its now a class-5 felony to wield a banana when near a police officer. The banana-wielder was lucky, he was one trigger-pull away from being a justifiable use of force. Seriously though, we have something serious screwed up in this nation of so many cops and citizens are so fearful of each other, were the mere sight of each other invokes such strong, negative emotions. I mean if the sight of a banana pointed at them invokes this response, it really does send a clear signal that ALL of use now have to be VERY careful in the presence of police officers (no sudden moves, no reaching into pockets while near them, and certainly no pointing ANYTHING at them, or in their direction) “I immediately ducked in my patrol car and accelerated continuing northbound, fearing that it was a weapon,” Bunch wrote in the affidavit, which lists Love and him as victims. “Based on training and experience, I have seen handguns in many shapes and colors and perceived this to be a handgun.” It does not bode well for those who record police activities (as a phone/camera is less distinguishable than a banana, because who knows it could be a camera-gun?) Its a sad state of affairs when we have to walk on egg-shells around the police for fear they might mistake some gesture as a threat.
