Its now been six years since the wind storm of Sunday, September - TopicsExpress

Its now been six years since the wind storm of Sunday, September 14, 2008 -- and the first time September 14 has been a Sunday since then! The events of that day, caused in large part by the remnants of Hurricane Ike, led to widespread damage and a few fatalities. Thunderstorms that were anticipated on the day of the wind storm did not develop. Instead, a significant amount of sun caused temperatures to become quite warm, helping to bring strong winds in the atmosphere down to the surface. By early afternoon, winds across the region were sustained at 30-50 MPH, with numerous gusts of 60-80 MPH. September 14, 2008 is the only known day with storm reports from all 52 counties served by NWS Wilmington Ohio. A few other events have come close, including the June 29, 2012 derecho (46 counties) and another large-scale wind storm on December 9, 2009 (50 counties).
