Its odd. I was just thinking about this issue a couple of articles before this. I saw an article where Taylor Swifts new album had sold over 1.2 million copies. I was shaking my head thinking about Chickenfoots last album only sold about 40,000 copies total. Tate is actually right for a change. An album that is selling 7 to 10 thousand copies in the first week is considered a successful launch. Before you bemoan the demise of the poor record industry, realize that production and distribution costs have changed dramatically since back in the day. The people that you should feel bad for is the people who actually make the music. Its kind of like politics......sure, the game has changed, but were still getting screwed!
