Its odd that with numerous titles, positions, degrees and accolades most Muslim public intellectuals (American Muslim Leaders© included) cant seemed to be bothered to verify the sources they use to substantiate their positions. Its quite shameful. I recall once in an interfaith setting one said persona decided to amaze the crowd with a fabricated story. To the amazement of the crowd (and the ire of that speaker and those reveling on his grace and light) a Rabbi attending the gathering rebuked him for mentioning something that was a known lie in order to woo the crowd in the name of faith. We wont get anywhere by whitewashing history or concocting fantastical stories. Fabrication of religious knowledge is not only disingenuous, it is a major sin. We must not take part in the true story, bro culture that has become widespread. Were at a loss by promoting these sorts of things, especially when we have access to more than enough verified and authentic material. We must strive to do better and take time away from our titles and accolades to take part in serious study of our faith. Sufyan said Learn before you lead. A poet once said: Amongst faults, I havent seen a fault * like the inability of the capable to be complete. ولم أر من العيوب عيبا * كنقص القادرين على التمام
