Its official. Im running for City Council in Columbus. At the beginning of this year, I stepped down from my position as State Director with Advocates for Ohio’s Future, because I saw an opportunity for change in Columbus. Cities across the nation are thinking big and making concrete changes to improve people’s quality of life. In 2014, 11 cities increased their minimum wage. New York, San Antonio and Denver are taking steps to make pre-k accessible to all children. Durham and Chapel Hill are moving forward on a 17-mile light rail line that could be the first part of a larger regional transportation system. The movement coming out of Ferguson, Missouri has sparked conversations across the nation about racial justice in our communities and our criminal justice system. We now have an opportunity in Columbus to shape our future and improve everyone’s quality of life. There are 5 city council seats up for election in November. The incumbents will be favored, but this election provides an opening for an independent candidate to elevate new ideas and a strong vision for Columbus. The campaign provides an opportunity to build ongoing momentum for key issues and advance serious conversations about things like raising the minimum wage. I’m running for City Council in Columbus in 2015 to do just that and I need your help. I need to collect a minimum of 1,000 signatures by February 4th to get into the primary election. That’s just over 3 weeks away! Please click the link below if youre interested in helping out. I believe we all deserve a living wage, good schools, affordable housing, child care, and health care. I want strong families and safe communities without poverty and mass incarceration. I love Columbus and I believe we all deserve to be part of the conversation about what’s next for our city. I believe a small group of people can change our neighborhoods and change our city. If we work together, we can make changes to improve people’s quality of life in all of our neighborhoods. I look forward to with all the awesome people of Columbus to make it happen.
