Its only a cartoon or a few words, you say, why do we find it so offensive and upsetting? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and salutation be upon him) is more beloved to Muslims than our own parents, relatives and even our own selves. The focal point of Islam is to have the utmost respect and love for Him - He is not just an ordinary being to us, but we believe He is the very reason we have even been created, the most superior and beautiful of all creation, perfect and absolutely free from any deficiencies. Therefore, anything that hurts the Prophet Muhammad (peace and salutations be upon him) hurts us. Anything that attempts to ridicule him pains and angers us. Why? Imagine if it was someone very dear to you, your mother, father, wife, children - they are being publicly mocked, ridiculed and their caricatures are drawn, published and distributed in millions of newspapers around the world, how would you feel? Would you not be upset and angered? Of course - any sane human would be! Our love and devotion for the Prophet Muhammad (peace and salutations be upon him) is greater than even the love a mother has for her own child, imagine how hurt we are then when the One most beloved to us is being disrespected in such a manner! Freedom of speech is not freedom to insult, mock and ridicule. Otherwise, why was there uproar when the very same magazine depicted a black woman as a monkey? The very same magazine which you say is championing free speech sacked a cartoonist for anti-Semitism and the very same French government also put a cartoonist on trial for anti-Semitism. The number of such examples of blatant double standards are countless. Is it only Jews who have the right to not be ridiculed? Are we, the Muslim community, not human enough for you? Must we remain silent whilst you mock us, our beliefs and our Beloved Prophet under the guise of freedom of speech? We, Muslims ourselves, are the biggest victims of extremists such as ISIS and Al-Qaeeda. The majority of people they are murdering on a daily basis are ordinary Muslims just like me in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. Where are the unity marches and outpour of sympathy for all of these innocent people, or when the people and children of Gaza are being bombed? Are they not just as deserving? Please share it JazakAllah khair
