Its quite impressive how resilient my worst qualities are; it feels like the more seriously I attempt to eradicate them, the more ferociously they boomerang back in the direction of what I hope is my truest self. When you try to kill something within yourself that youve been self-indulgently nurturing for decades, and you know it must be done to make any genuine spiritual progress while on this planet, its not going to go without a serious fight. And by worst qualities I dont just mean relatively small acts of indifference and inattention throughout the day, or the minor sins we like to confess to in order to absolve ourselves of our true crimes; Im talking about a blackness of heart no clever metaphor will begin to describe. And on that uplifting note, its time to embrace the day!
