Its quite telling. I have lost so many non-Black friends on Facebook since I began calling out the cops on their anti-Black brutality. It has been quote an education for me. One woman told me she supports the shooting of even unarmed suspects. Another told me that she doesnt want all these Black faces in her newsfeed. Another had the nerve to say that she supports the cops, no matter what they do. She has relatives who are cops and she said that if they must kill every Black person in America, just to come home safe, shed be okay with it. Another told me he couldnt be friends if I wouldnt stop talking about it. It makes him uncomfortable to support me, unthinkable to stand in solidarity. I mean, what would his other friends think? But, of course, Im not surprised. He tried to call me out when Prop 8 passed in 2008. Yes! He wants me to be his ally in gay rights, but um, sorry, he cant stand with me against police brutality. Not his problem. And yet another told me to get over it. Blacks have the biblical curse of Ham and we will be the scum of the earth forever. Oh no she didnt! Oh yes she did! Well, my skin is tough. Look at my ancestors. They lived, they died, they never gave up hope. Life, and the struggle, goes on, with or without allies. And yes, I will continue to speak out, no matter who doesnt like it. #TheyWantUsToBeSilentButHellNo
