Its rather Uniform mass media reporting on recent developments in Thailand, isnt it? Lol! So this was worthy a letter to the economist: Sir, The international press is not any more reporting on Thailand, except some concise monitors like the economist. In case they report, the text is full of negative expectation hypothesis. This is the trend and has become a bad habit in media because it sells: permanent critical speculations. How must we as democratic citizens interpret this? From Thais and foreign friends living in Thailand we only get positive news. Life has become peaceful again, nothing spectacular. Business as usual? No, definitely not! Business stagnates. The new military government is guiding the folks towards a moral and ethically correct future. This is far more challanging and absolutely revolutionary and might not cope with economic high growth but with enough to make a fairly good and liberal living for everybody in this extraordinary fructuous and fecond land. Happiness shall be the benchmark, not money, this is what the new Thai constitution shall bear in it. It makes us think of countries never mentioned in the harsh daily press, like Butan. This is against the already existing an to what is supposed to be highly developed. Thailand in political terms has never been colonialised but instrumentalised for diverse interests. Thailand always was extremly lucky to resist evil powers in Asia by cooperating literally with so called friends based on the principle of equity and good faith. As cooperation with powers is/was always a balancing act, Thailand was the hot hand in Asia to decide for the best for its entire folks, including all minorities, and never for an individual group. We might compare Thailand just with its neighbouring countries. The former isolated and about to be economically exploitet Myanmar, the communist Laos, the traumatised Cambodia and Vietnam, the islamic state of Malaysia. By comparing with common sense we realise of what wild-card character Thailand is and always was: it is (what the countrys name sais) of exeptional independence. We may speculate about the reason for it. There were many fortunate circumstances but also wise and visionary decisions. But lets put it the Thai way, apart from the western reasoning way: Thailand is of a kind of free spirit and follows actively its destiny. Coming to the powers to resist these times: every citizen in democratic, so to say free states, may have noticed, its not simply the Sinawatras, the Bushs, the US or the mass of Chinese to get rid of. Its the economic greed, the sharky industries, the populism, the religious extremism following right behind the super-powers. The social coherence dreamers and journalist correspondents in Europe might be good to start become more independent when talking down on Thailand. There has been far more unexperienced politicians who did their job up to the best with a strong conviction and good will. See Jon Gnarr with barkeeper and punk colleagues in Reykjavik/Iceland recently. Give the honest military men a chance and report with positive or at least benevolent fictions. Its late time for a political, economical and moral anti-trend. In Thailand...and beyond. But yes, you can!
