Its sad, but this happens all the time. And not just in New York, it happens everywhere. I was stopped last year walking home from work. Its a 15 minute walk down a street that isnt even very busy, and I was wearing modest looking business attire. He said to another nearby man, Youre not gonna holler at that? Look at her all dressed up. Shes successful. How about you give The Andre your phone number pretty lady? Yep, thats right, he called himself The Andre and even talked down to another man who had been walking behind me and hadnt tried to hit on me. As if he were less of a man. I wish I were exaggerating, but Ive honestly left out a lot of the nastiness he said to me that day. This type of behavior is NOT OKAY. And it never will be. These men have been taught that women are nothing but things to look at and play with. But we are so much more than that and we deserve to be treated as such.
