Its sad to see Britain shirk away its responsibility when it comes to the Israel-Palestine crisis.....because its a problem that Britain created! Liquidating the colonial Government in 1947 was a massive mistake when they knew that civil war would break out...the occupying British empire should have stayed, implemented UN Security Council Resulution 181 calling for the partition ofthe area, and acted as peacekeepers. Yet, just like in India, the British Government shirked away from its responsibility and let civil war and communal warfare break out. Now, unfortunately, a return to the 1947 armistice lines proposed by the UN looks impossible. The Israelis have built a massive wall all around Gaza and the West Bank to supposedly keep Palestinian terrorists out, (Which is a valid reason) but in reality, as revealed by Ehud Barak, the wall incurges into occupied Palestinian territory in the West Bank, is an effort to determine the boundaries of a future Palestinian state, and so is unfortunately in fact an annexation (This is not me saying this....These are the words of the UN Security Council, General Assembly, EU, Arab League, and the International Criminal Court.) Realistically, can a state on these new boundaries succeed? I definitely hope so because I would like to see a two-state solution, but sooner or later it will become unviable. That will be 100% the fault of the British empire more than anybody else. Was it really too much to ask for them to stay, keep the two sides apart and implement the UN partition plan, then leave?
