Its starting to get cool out. How does that effect your cars performance? Here are 3 things your car needs checked as it gets cold out. 1) Battery- As it gets cold out, batteries loose power. That problem is amplified in the cold because engines take more power to start. The average life on a battery is 5 years. If its any older than that, you are living on borrowed time and cooler weather will expose that. 2) Tires- Tire lose about 1 PSI per month naturally. They also loose 1 PSI for every 10 degrees drop in temperature. If you checked your tire pressure 2 months ago when the temperature was 90 degrees and it is 40 degrees today than the PSI in your tires should be 25 PSI. I have free air here . You are welcome to it any time. I can also inspect the tread for you. It keeps the water in your engine from boiling in the summer and freezing in the winter. If the water freezes in your engine it can do serious damage including cracking it. If you had to add water to your car this summer it needs to be check for correct concentration levels. If you are in doubt, I can check that here at my shop very quickly. Also good quality antifreeze should be changed every 150,000 miles or 5 years as routine maintenance. Antifreeze manufactures recommended a equal amount of water to antifreeze which will protect you from -35 to + 265 degree.
