Its startling to imagine that despite priding ourselves on being one of the most religious people in the world, our attitude, obviously, is in contrast to our label..Nigerians are increasingly(my judgement) alienated from the God of the religions we all lay claim to. Our day to day inter-personal relations, give us away as a people who are genuinely not God conscious, in stack contradiction of our claims. We dont fear God in our dealings but we are just too ready to display, rather ostentatiously, our religious side to the next person. Drawing from the above, I have seen in this clime, very religious people even clerics who have come out to defend the atrocities of Israel against palestinians but are quick to tag the activities of Boko Haram members as evil and ungodly. I have equally come across, in this same clime, very religious people as well as clerics, who support the activities of some terrorist organisations across the globe but condemn the actions of Israel on palestinians...I dont know what to make of these two groups of religionists with their selective and prejudiced criticism of terrorism. This despicable double standard appears to be more rampant among the first group of religionists than the later, in my sincere, but not definite, assessment. It stems from lack of fear of God, examplified in the hypocrisy, to support the evil of Israel while vilifying the actions of BH and vice versa. It equally stems from genuine lack of fear of the Almighty to bear so much grudge and animosity for each other for the only divine reason that our plurality is evident. I suppose that our believe in God should stem the tide of hatred among us and make us just in our assessment of issues and in dealing with one another but nay, the reverse is the case. Nigerians and their unfounded hyper religious show off; we simply do not have rivals any where in the world. You have got to trust me on this.
