Its swimming season and with that comes an increase awareness for children around water. This is about secondary drowning. This isnt new. Weve been running on these types of calls for years. It just has many names. Parking lot drowning, dry drowning, secondary drowning, passive drowning, etc. Symptoms may not appear for up to 72 hours after swimming, but look out for unusual fatigue and lethargy, coughing, pale skin, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing. These are symptoms of a lack of oxygen. Sure, this may be just one more thing parents have to worry about, and it may annoy your kids because it means closer supervision, but better safe than sorry.
