Its taken 22 days since I left Los Angeles to get to this moment and the first time in 9 years I have been with these people for Christmas. Although many knew I was returning and why, I kept it a secret from these folks to make it a special night. They are my nephew Niko, my nephew Alexi and my nephew Nikita. Niko was so excited his heart was racing for half an hour. He has asked for me as the only gift he wanted for every birthday and Christmas since I left. Anyone that has a relationship with a special needs child knows all too well the power of love that exists between two that are engaged in caring and being cared for to the extent that its almost impossible to determine whos on the giving and receiving end. Next are my mother and father. My dad was so overcome with emotion that he cried for half an hour and it was one of the most meaningful exchanges I have EVER had with him. My mother, stoic as usual but beaming nonetheless, immediately served me with half of one of her family famous tortieres which is one of my favourite things to eat in the entire universe. Now you see my sister smiling, my brother-in-law giving me the old shot in the arm and who could forget little Root Beer fast asleep!!! I need to thank every single person who found it in their heart to help me get here and be with my family. Those of you who decided that caring for a friend in need was as important as caring for a family member which makes you all an extended member of MY family. I thank and love you all.
