Its that time again! The first LepiBASH for 2015 coincides with the Animal Demography Units Summer Surge, from 31 January to 8 February. We are aiming to get as many records as possible into LepiMAP - the Atlas of African Lepidoptera! Anybody, anywhere in Africa can take part! Please submit your photographs of butterflies and moths (photo-place-date records) to LepiMAP at vmus.adu.org.za/. To help you take photographs of these species, we have produced this slideshow - slideshare.net/meganloftieeaton/how-to-photograph-butterflies-and-moths - use the arrows at the bottom of the slides to navigate through the slides Mapping how species ranges are changing is key to proper biodiversity conservation and can act as an early warning system if a species might be in trouble. Is a species range expanding or contracting? If we dont know this how can we make proper decisions regarding its conservation? You can help us by submitting your photos to LepiMAP. We would also like you to please focus on photographing species from the same localities as they have been recorded in previous years/months/weeks (if you have a backlog of data, and older records, please submit those too!). This will help to confirm whether a species is still present in an area or not. The next LepiBASH events for 2015 will be from 25 April to 3 May and then again from 19 September to 27 September ---- but remember that you can submit records at any time! :-)
