Its that time of year again. I post this every year because we have new people coming to the page all of the time. The Holidays are the ABSOLUTE WORST times of the year for shelter animals. People dont want their newly acquired pets hanging around when all of the family is going to be coming for dinner. They take the pets to the shelter as owner surrender or they put them out, thinking they will just sit there until all of the company has left and then it will be OK for the pet to rejoin the family. Those pets decide to go for a walk and get picked up by the local pound. Then, of course, there are the dogs that just dont belong to anyone and people call the pound instead of offering them a home. Im getting to the point now, but wanted you to get a visual of what is going to happen. From the week before Thanksgiving until January 3 or 4th, there will be more dogs killed in Georgia shelters than all the rest of the year combined. The shelters will start making room for the new arrivals next week which means the ones that are currently there will have to die. 2 Holidays back to back make this the highest kill volume time of year. Please share our posts and help save as many as possible. We cant save them all (yet) but we can make sure that at least SOME find a home for the Holidays. God Bless. (dd)
