Its the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. My first understanding of Communism came in 1969. My cousin, Dale Schwefel, was killed by Communists. My second understanding was less painful, but more gripping. As an exchange student to West Germany in 1977, I went through Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin and saw the DDR (East Germany) firsthand. It was frightening. Thankfulness for Christian liberty became a real part of my self-identity while a boy. After one trip to Communist Cuba, and eighteen of them to Red China, Im more committed than ever to preach freedom in Christ, and to live liberty. The anti-Christian tyranny of totalitarianism has rapidly grown here in the United States. Ive been arrested and jailed here in the U.S. for peacefully praying on public sidewalks, preaching the Gospel , singing, and reading the Bible.
