Its the day before election and Im reading the emails, FB posts, twitters and blogs about how they feel and why they are candidates. Heres mine, well not so much of a political justice story, this is a story of when I realized how politics works...here goes.... Im an advocate for families from all over. I take pride in helping these families. They are a part of me so I always refer them as to my families which can confuse people lol I also help places of worship. Doesnt matter what you believe in or dont, I will still help you. Years ago I got a frantic call from a Priest who said he cant seem to get the help that is needed for a family. The problem was he had a man dieing in Jersey Shore Hospital and he was to be married but might not make it past 48 hrs. He was from freehold but was in Neptune now. The priest can try to do a ceremony but legally its up to the towns. Here I go making my calls..(Im gona make it a short story, too many details lol) I spoke to Neptune office that said they had gotten in trouble for helping in a similar case so its up to my Neptune Mayor to give the ok so we can legally marry this couple. I called the mayor and left messages, I emailed him, called others to find other ways to get a hold of him, left messages and notes with the township but he did not return my calls or the Priest calls or anyone else that attempted to reach him. The Dioceses from Trenton was able to allow the religious ceremony to take place and the young man died the following morning :,-( I was disappointed in my town mayor but even more when he showed up, during election time, at a Spanish Latino/a Community Event -_- asking for our vote and saying he is there for our Spanish speaking families and he will help. You can always reach him -_- riiiiight..Thank God James was next to me and squeezed my hand and whispered in my ear let it go, its not going to change anything no matter what you say to him. I smiled and thanked him for his visit. This is the same town that blocked my attempts to have families carry ID cards with a volunteer translator contact number, the police chief didnt want them saying it would Document the undocumented Baaahaaa ok sir whatever that means BUT anyhow, this is just two struggles I faced in Neptune for years. You have to fight for equality, assistance but everyone only listens during election time. I guess thats just how it works. One African American gentleman came up to me one day and told me to learn as much as I can about the black people movement and how they fought to be an equal with the white man, then he says learn about the womens movement how they fought for equality after the black man was able to vote.....NOW take all of that and realize that you are fighting the same fight but now you have white and black fighting you with the added struggle of being a woman not just any woman, your persistsnt and wont hush up when told lol He says Im sure you will make a difference some how. I see it in you. If not this town then in a bigger way. God knows what hes doing. That man said this to me 5 years ago. Im havent stopped fighting. Everyday is a lesson learned, everyday is an opportunity to make a difference, everyday I thank god for allowing me to wake up EVERYDAY to enjoy my day! Dont let political games or money or craziness influence or control you. You have control over your voice so make your voice count and VOTE for who will represent you the best. But remember that I speak several languages so I can speak for you sounding awesome lol lol Good luck to EVERY CANDIDATE :)
