Its the second day of classes at Augusta Bluegrass Week, and were off to a great start. Highlights so far: * A couple of great after-lunch presentations--vocals with Laurie Lewis, Tom Rozum, and Kathy Kallick and band dynamics with the SteelDrivers and Sharon Gilchrist *Meeting up with an old friend I havent seen since the 80s *A very high-functioning slow jam before dinner *A fun jam with some students--including an excellent young Monroe-style mandolin player--on Halliehurst porch * A late-night guitarcentric jam with Tyler Grant, Neel Brown, John Seebach, and Mary Burdette Today Murphy Henry will be giving a presentation about her recent book Pretty Good For a Girl: Women In Bluegrass. Tonight theres a concert, and at the contra dance afterwards I and my fellow staff musicians will provide the music, along with Patrick McAvinue on fiddle.
