Its time for the second round of our March Madness bracket! The third match up is the alligator snapping turtle versus the komodo dragon. LIKE the photo of the animal you want to win by clicking on the photo and then on LIKE! You have until 6PM tomorrow to cast your vote. Remember, its not who would win in a fight but rather which animal is your favorite or is more interesting! Both animals hunt for their food...they just have VERY different ways of getting it. Alligator snapping turtles lay motionless at the bottom of murky water with their mouth open. Theres a small, pink, worm-like lure on their bottom jaw that they wiggle. Fish are attracted to the lure and come for a closer look. Then the snapper lunges forward and grabs the fish! Komodo dragons will often eat carrion. However, when they go for live prey, they will ambush the animal and grab their leg, underside, or throat. This opens up gaping wounds, and their venom will help speed up the blood loss by not allowing the blood to clot. This weakens the prey and makes it easier for one or more dragons to deliver the final blows. During feeding is one of the few times youll see more than one dragon in the same area. Since most animals are too big to swallow whole, they will grab a mouthful and use their can opener-like teeth to saw back and forth until that chunk of meat comes loose. Remember to share this with your family and friends!
