Its time for us to heal the rift that was put between us. We were all fighting so hard to stay alive, and we sort of thought it best to stay in our lanes... thinking it would go easier for us if we did. But it hasnt. When my NDN ancestors were fighting for their homes, brown people stayed silent. And if we could pass for brown, we did, because brown people had value... we were oppressed but we had monetary value and therefore could stay alive. Our NDN ancestors did not have value: The only good Indian is a dead Indian. We stood in the way of land grabs. During the Civil Rights era, no light was put on any contribution made by Native Americans but there were many. Rosa Parks, most famously. And in the 70s when my brown people could have supported AIM, we didnt. Well, we need to, now. Because brown lives no longer have monetary value... apparently we are expendable. We are all targets. But there is strength in numbers.
