A few basics that you can apply to your home garden: make sure your plants are adequately watered, a dehydrated plant is not a happy plant. Cover your plants with a sheet at night and remove it when temperatures rise above freezing. A vegetable farmer may cover acres of crops at a time using 1 oz row covers. This give the plant another few degrees of protection and holds in whatever heat there is from the soil.
