Its time to talk BOOK TOUR, my friends, because this is looking like a real thing that will happen in the real world -- if youll lend me a hand or three. Yesterday I talked to my publicist for the first time. (I have a publicist. My life is very strange right now.) I told him the concept behind the Dead Boys Bar Tour, basically a pop-up version of the Y Bar readings, which were more like one-act plays than cheese-and-wine literary readings by the end. He told me that he has theatrical training and would like a speaking part. This seems like a good omen. Thing is, I bragged rather a lot about my friends to make it clear how feasible this tour would be. He wouldnt have to do much organizing, I claimed, because my friends are so creative and amazing and well-connected that we could get shows together in a number of cities. All wed need in each spot would be: * A bar, the more underworld-y, the better * One or two (or more) people willing to read * Some ghastly makeup and raggedy costumes (optional) * A bunch of artsy types and/or fantasy geeks to pack the place And the rest would pretty much take care of itself. I took the temperature on this a while back, and it sounded like weve got people from Wisconsin to Boston whod be down. Im wondering if youll all take a minute to think about it, then let me know if youve got an idea for where we might do this in your area, and with whom. This is shoestring theatre, so all I can offer you is a signed book and a big hug... ...but its gonna be fun. Send me a message if youd be willing to commit to organizing an event in your area, or even if youve got a bar I can contact and some friends you can bring, and Ill aim high with my proposal! The book release is March 3.
