Its time we coined terminology other than racism to address the assaults being perpetrated on blacks and all other minorities in this country today. Racism usually referred to some form of discrimination--employment, housing, education and other forms of unequal treatment. The issues facing us today are more closely related to life and death--literally. I would prefer an unfair trial to a police officers bullet in my brain. I would prefer to lose my house than my freedom. I would prefer to lose my job than my right to vote. I would prefer to lose my life than my First Amendment rights. Racism just isnt a strong enough word to describe these deliberate, coordinated assaults on our inherent rights as citizens of this country. I am convinced that the term most appropriate for those who seek to deny us these rights is not racism, but terrorism, and we must be wary of all its forms. It is terrorism when a police officer can shoot you in broad daylight when you are unarmed with your hands up, and the governing authorities have to wonder whether he should be punished. It is terrorism when a single person denies the right of its poor citizens to free healthcare because he doesnt like the benefactor. It is terrorism when 5 men are allowed to overturn a statute that has been effective for over 50 years in preserving the right to vote. It is terrorism when states use the loopholes provided by the foregoing group to deny the rights of millions of people to vote. It is terrorism when a single Governmental party can deny the rights of 12 million hard-working people the right to become a citizen of this country without fear of deportation. It is terrorism when one governmental party denies the right to a living wage while taking away the resources to sustain them. It is time to cease negotiations with these terrorists. It is time we took away their power.
