Its tragic that in this age of instantaneous information virtually no one knows that organizations within the U.S. government were found guilty of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King’s stands on Vietnam and the Poor People’s Campaign had created enemies in Washington. King’s speech at New York’s Riverside Church on April 4, 1967, which condemned the Vietnam War and identified the U.S. government as the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today, provoked intense hostility in the White House and FBI. Hatred and fear of King deepened, in response to his plan to hold the Poor People’s Campaign in Washington, D.C. King wanted to shut down the nation’s capital in the spring of 1968 through massive civil disobedience until the government agreed to abolish poverty.
