It’s 1:30 am here in France, and our alarm is set to go off at 3:45 am to get up and out to the flight home. But it is a little hard to come down from the experience we just had. The Big Phat Band has spent this week playing a series of concerts at La Folle Journee, a huge classical music festival held in Nantes, France. This festival features over 1800 musicians and it’s attendance this year was over 220,000 people. We’ll weigh in with more details later, but to a man, the guys thought this might have been the most extraordinary and unforgettable experience the band has ever had. We played eleven concerts, all of them sold out, with overflow crowds at each one and we got an unbelievable reception. Even the prime minister of France came to see us – twice! We did 4 concerts with an excellent orchestra from Warsaw, called Sinfonia Varsovia, which included a live broadcast over the ARTE Channel (a cultural channel, kind of like PBS) and soon we should have some video for you to see. (Wait until you see “Hunting Wabbits” with a full orchestra!) But for now, you can check out video from our last concert, where I, on my THIRD curtain call, bring my son Garrison out to share the love, and as you can see, he knows what to do in the spotlight. As we stood on that stage, basking in appreciation from 2000 complete strangers, many who had not had heard of us before, I realized (yet again) how truly lucky I am. I looked over at my friends in the Phat Band, saw their beaming faces, and knew we were in a moment we would not soon forget. Playing music is a gift, plain and simple. If you get to do that today, consider that a good day spent! https://youtube/watch?v=olM97xLeyg4
