It’s Day Four of the loss of the people’s government to Ramotar’s abuse of the Prorogation tool that has been subjectively interpreted to promote the PPP’s quest for a one party state and we’re still waiting to hear something concrete from the collective Opposition – except that they jointly “condemn in the strongest possible terms….that there will be no extra parliamentary sessions with the President… Are you serious? This is the time for extra sessions with him. There has been an admitted misuse of this democratic tool by Ramotar who states, quite plainly, that he has prorogued because his initiatives will not pass the Opposition Majority. THIS IS THE TIME FOR EXTRA PARLIAMENTARY SESSIONS – with the Opposition going in to Parliament EVERYDAY, and addressing the people from the People’s House. Ramotar can’t lock those doors. Parliament is not a private business; not his daddy’s shop. And you, Opposition, are not representing a private organization; practicing some mild - mannered office politics so as not to offend employees and transgress against the dictates of company policy. You are the employees of the People of Guyana and by extension all Guyanese. The Constitution is office policy and is to be interpreted as tool and not a weapon. Ramotar has abused his power and has ripped the sovereignty from that people – the same sovereignty described in Article 9 of the Constitution 1980 with 1996 reforms. Instead the Opposition remains separate with APNU calling for “massive pro democracy rally on Square of the Revolution” – a rally against a government that fails to provide answers to police brutality, that controls a police force by threats to their jobs, that has abject disrespect for anything that is remotely associated with Cuffy and that has either direct control or associate control over the jobs of the would –be protestors. AfC’s Nagamootoo and Ramjattan are more in favor riots, suggesting that any assaults committed against Indians during protests, would be by Blacks on the PPP payroll ( I paraphrase). At this eleventh hour and in this state of political chaos, there remains division between the Opposition and along racial lines that diminish the stature of Afro Guyanese. Hopefully, somebody has the presence of mind to promote a registration drive at these rallies ahead of an impending general election because this gathering will have zero impact on Ramotar – except it is followed by a constant and consistent and radio/tv broadcast by the collective Opposition from their places of duty within the chambers of Parliament.
