It’s Time to Get SERIOUS Joshua 24:14-27: (AMP) 14: Now therefore, [reverently] fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in truth; put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the [Euphrates] River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15: And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. 16: The people answered, Far be it from us to forsake the Lord to serve other gods; 17: For it is the Lord our God Who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, Who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the peoples through whom we passed. 18: And the Lord drove out before us all the people, the Amorites who dwelt in the land. Therefore we also will serve the Lord, for He is our God. 19: And Joshua said to the people, You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God. He will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. 20: If you forsake the Lord and serve strange gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good. 21: And the people said to Joshua, No; but we will serve the Lord. 22: Then Joshua said to the people, You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord, to serve Him. And they said, We are witnesses. 23: Then put away, said he, the foreign gods that are among you and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel. 24: The people said to Joshua, The Lord our God we will serve; His voice we will obey. 25: So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem. 26: And Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God; and he took a great stone and set it up there under an oak that was in [the court of] the sanctuary of the Lord. 27: And Joshua said to all the people, See, this stone shall be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the Lord spoke to us; so it shall be a witness against you, lest [afterward] you lie (pretend) and deny your God. WE HAVE PLAYED & IGNORED OUR SITUATION LONG ENOUGH LET’S GET SERIOUS ABOUT THE LORD LET’S MAKE A CHOICE! 14: Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15: And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. The people liked it both ways and they became unstable in all their ways! We cannot stand if we are unstable in what we believe! Matt 6:24: (AMP) No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (Deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in). 1st John 2:15: (NASB) Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love for the Father is not in him. 1: MAKE A COMMITMENT they made A CHOICE! So we need to make a CHOICE! Joshua 24: 16-18(NASB) 16: And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods; 17: for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and who did these great signs in our sight and preserved us through all the way in which we went and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed. 18: And the LORD drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites who lived in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God. 2: Joshua wanted a COMMITMENT! And we need to make a COMMITMENT! Joshua 24:19-20(NASB) 19: Then Joshua said to the people, You will not be able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgression or your sins. 20: If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you after He has done good to you. · A burst of enthusiasm is not enough! After we make a choice, God wants a Commitment · The people made a commitment (covenant) to serve the Lord · Joshua demanded more than words, he wanted action Joshua 24:23-24 (NASB) 23: Now therefore, put away the foreign gods which are in your midst, and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel. 24: And the people said to Joshua, We will serve the LORD our God and we will obey His voice. 3: Our Commitment is to show our actions! MAKE A MARKER · Joshua had the people look to the stone as a witness · We have spiritual stones to remind us of our commitments we have made · The day we were BORN AGAIN! · The day we decided to give our all to Jesus ARE YOU SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD? HAVE YOU MADE A CHOICE? HAVE YOU MADE A COMMITMENT? ARE THERE MARKERS (STONES) YOU CAN LOOK BACK AT? GOD IS READY FOR US TO BE SERIOUS!
