It’s Wednesday, July 23. Here is some of what Sun staffers and other news providers are working on for lowellsun and Thursday’s edition: • Reporter Grant Welker, gwelker@lowellsun, is speaking with supermarket analysts in an effort to find out which side will blink first in the Market Basket square-off. In the meantime, as Market Basket’s shelves go bare, other supermarket chains are capitalizing on Market Basket’s woes. • With Market Basket based in Tewksbury, the local Board of Selectmen is obviously following the issue closely. The board is also meeting in special session late Wednesday afternoon for the sole purpose of discussing the Market Basket case. Reporter Chelsea Feinstein, cfeinstein@lowellsun, is covering. • Thomas Siopes, the Lowell police lieutenant who faces termination for his role in the cellblock death case, is before a city hearing officer for the second consecutive day. Covering is Reporter Lyle Moran, lmoran@lowellsun. • Billerica native Tom Glavine’s remarkable pitching career in the big leagues has earned him a coveted spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and he’ll be inducted Sunday. Sun retired baseball writer Chaz Scoggins has penned a column on Glavine’s upcoming induction. • The Sun’s Editorial Board is meeting with Steven Grossman, Democratic candidate for governor. Covering is Reporter Hiroko Sato, hsato@lowellsun. Follow The Sun on facebook/lowellsun; on our mobile app; or on lowellsun. We welcome your suggestions, comments and contributions to staff members via their email addresses, or to Editor Jim Campanini (@suneditor) or jcampanini@lowellsun
