It’s a heart cry for awakening: “I lie in the dust; revive me by your word.” (Psalm 119:25 NLT) The writer of this landmark psalm understood the connection between God’s word and revival. Over four decades I have studied revivals around the world, and every time I find that the preaching of the Word of God is a primary catalyst. After experiencing and explaining revival worldwide, it is clear that preaching God’s Word promotes revival. The unknown psalmist (perhaps Ezra) realizes that the Word of God is also the path to personal renewal and wrote: “I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness.” (Psalm 119:40 NLT)
