It’s a sad evening in the Nichols’ household, I can’t believe it happened. I failed at the underwear flip from the foot and catch ending with a snappy slam-dunk into the clothes hamper. I’ve had some close one’s over the years, a few hamper hangers or over the head grabs, but I don’t ever recall not making the toss, catch or slam dunk. I can’t explain the feeling as I watched those Hanes slip off my toe and crash into the shower curtain, it was as if they were falling in slow motion and I was frozen in state, helpless and no way to recover. As I bent over in shame to pick up my underwear I couldn’t help but think, what next, a failed helicopter? This is worse than when I turned 50. I’ll just file this as one more disappointment from the promise of the golden years.
