It’s cold. It’s damp. It’s lonely. It’s depressing. It’s not good. You lose hope very quickly. You live day by day. A group of up to 50 homeless people in Rockingham, Western Australia have addressed the Senate Inquiry into Affordable housing. Their request: a community park with a shared cooking and shower area to give them a sense of safety. The way they’ve become a voice in this conversation is incredible, says Rockingham Salvation Army officer Darrell Wilson. It’s really powerful to hear directly from a group of homeless people, to let them talk about the issues they are actually facing. The group will find out the answer to their request in March
