It’s come to our attention that a series of “robocalls” were made, alleging that Congress is trying to take away veterans’ cellphones. This is false. A bill pending in Congress, H.R. 176, seeks to amend the Lifeline program, which was originally created to provide subsidized, landline telephone access to low income individuals. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) expanded the program to cover cell phone usage, which led to skyrocketing costs and misuse of the program. H.R. 176 places reasonable restrictions on this costly government program. This bill has not been voted on.
