It’s easier to tell people what they want to hear rather than what you really think. You start doing it early in life—in the classroom, at a job interview, on a date—saying things to please and impress, and when the stakes get higher later on, you can suffer enormous consequences if you don’t do it—you might lose a job or end a relationship. In the case of the apostles after Jesus’ crucifixion, they faced death but they spoke their minds nonetheless because the consequences of denying what they knew and had witnessed were greater still. How can you maintain your integrity and authenticity in interactions when others resist?
