It’s easy to see natural gas – the stuff of our business – - TopicsExpress

It’s easy to see natural gas – the stuff of our business – in everything every day. Today, we have a mashup that may surprise you: Music. And Black Friday. Turns out, it’s a gas, gas, gas! Yes, Virginia, there really is natural gas in your vinyl record collection. And, today is Record Store Day Black Friday as indie record stores everywhere provide refuge for music lovers with exclusive and small-run releases and Black Friday firsts. At the center of attention – vinyl records. Classic black or collectible color vinyl – it’s not music until those grooves get pressed into hot vinyl, which is melted PVC pellets. And, you can bet your elf on the shelf that PVC pellets are made from specially processed natural gas. (Come to think of it, elf on the shelf’s origin story likely revolves around natural gas, too.) Take a video voyage below through the largest vinyl pressing plant in the United States and see for yourself how PVC pellets transform into power chords and pop. Bonus round: One of the advertised Record Store Black Friday firsts is “Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1” – not on vinyl, but on cassette tape, as Star Lord intended. And, yes, the cassette and the tape – made from natural gas. Grooves courtesy of Blue Swede, Raspberries, Norman Greenbaum, David Bowie, Elvin Bishop, Jackson 5, 10cc, Redbone 3, The Runaways, Rupert Holmes, The Five Stairsteps, and Mavin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. #RSDBF
