It’s inspiring for me when someone from my neck of the woods is recognized for artistic achievement nationally, so the wide success of Birmingham’s St. Paul and the Broken Bones is something that’s made me happy on several levels. These are mostly local musicians who nobody outside of town had heard of a year ago, but they’ve become wildly popular among music fans. This is a slower song from the band’s show in Boston Tuesday night. I find myself watching and thinking, “If these Alabama boys can make good art and become successful, why can’t I?” It inspires me to do some things I know I can do.
