It’s not easy to fool a five-year old: B.C. study Many parents tell their children the occasional white lie, but a new study suggests that kids can tell when they’re being misinformed, even when it’s by a confident trickster. Psychology researchers at the University of B.C. found that, by the age of five, children become wary of information provided by people who make overly confident claims. “There’s kind of this naïve belief that children are just passive sponges soaking up any and all new information,” said Susan Birch, the study’s senior author and an associate professor of psychology at UBC. “But in contrast, there’s quite a bit of evidence that children play a very active role in deciding what to learn and who to believe.” metronews.ca/news/vancouver/1179702/by-age-5-kids-can-tell-when-youre-lying-university-of-b-c-study/
