It’s not often that you see a grown man cry. Especially a former U.S. Marine. And when you do it’s usually because they lost a friend in combat. But that’s not what happened today. Today Jack Bernardo was crying because he just got the surprise of his life. Here’s the story: Bernardo was preparing to return to the Bay Area from overseas after serving 21 years in the Marine Corps. So he bought a home for his family in Suisun City. To say it needed a LOT of work would be an understatement. Bernardo asked his friend Jeremy Epperson if he could keep an eye on the house until Bernardo arrived back in the states. Epperson is also a former Marine and he decided to do more than just watch the house. Way more. I didnt think it was right for a person who retired, given 21 years and 50 percent of their pay to come back and spend every cent that they saved on fixing up a home. So Epperson teamed with the Jimmy Doolittle Center, and several contractors and volunteers. And in just ten days they painted the home. They installed new floors. They redid the kitchen And they put in a beautiful new lawn. (Which you can see in the picture) Epperson couldn’t wait to surprise Bernardo: Hes a pretty emotional guy, so I imagine there will be a lot of tears. Epperson was right. Bernardo flew in to the Bay Area today and when he pulled up to his house he couldn’t believe it. Epperson gave him a hug and a kiss and said: “We did it for you.” Bernardo was overcome with emotion and burst into tears. He was very humble and said: I dont deserve this. Those guys that didnt make it in one piece, they deserve this, not me. There are a lot of people who would beg to differ. Welcome home Jack Bernardo and thank you for your service!
