It’s now only TWO WEEKS until our annual Beer and Pie Festival! To celebrate our 9th year we’re kicking things off early with a special beer and pie countdown! For the next week The White Cross Pub and Merchants 1688 will be revealing a different beer and pie match each day. Our returning pastry champion will be revealed first. So in at number one it’s ....... The Game, Port and Pancetta Pie! This pie is served in a shortcrust pastry wedge, and stuffed to the brim with venison, pigeon, pheasant and rabbit. The game is slowly braised in port for hours, then joined in the pan by pancetta and finished in the oven. The intense game flavours of these meats are complemented by the fruitiness and body of the port. The perfect match for this pie is Dent Brewerys very own STATION PORTER. This traditional English porter leaves enough body behind to not confuse the bold flavours of the pie, whilst it’s complex malt notes complement the whole dish. 6 more beer and pies to be revealed over the course of a week, and thats not even going to be all of them!
