It’s part of the planned obsolescence of bus transit because light rail and street cars are so much cooler! Seriously, why would we choose dedicated means of mass transit that have been proven to be net-losers in terms of both removing cars from the road and costing more than it brings in? The bus system comes very close to netting out to zero and it’s entirely flexible in terms of changing routes to serve people instead of trying to consolidate people around the routes (train stations mainly).
